Dear NSRT Members,
On January 28, 2026, the Nebraska Society of Radiologic Technologists provided testimony before the Nebraska Legislature’s Health and Human Services Committee regarding LB 936, a bill advanced by Senator Ballard.
Testimony was delivered by Shelli Weddum, Brenda Jennelle, and Ashley Balliet on behalf of NSRT. Collectively, the testimony emphasized that while NSRT supports access to care, patient safety must remain central when fluoroscopy is used. Key concerns included the lack of clearly defined education standards for fluoroscopy, the absence of explicit collaboration requirements with licensed medical radiographers, and regulatory inconsistencies created by the bill as written.
NSRT highlighted the critical role radiographers play in radiation protection, dose optimization, patient positioning, and real-time monitoring during fluoroscopic procedures. Testimony underscored Nebraska’s history of radiography licensure and existing statutory models, such as the CRNA statute, that require collaboration with licensed radiographers to ensure safe practice.
NSRT urged the Committee to amend LB 936 to clearly require collaboration with licensed medical radiographers when fluoroscopy is utilized and to write specific education and training requirements into statute, rather than deferring them to future rulemaking. These clarifications were presented as necessary to protect patients, maintain consistency across practice settings, and uphold radiation safety standards statewide.
We continue to advocate for patient safety, education, and collaborative care across Nebraska and will keep our members updated and informed on this important matter.
Sincerely,
Ashley Balliet, M.Ed. R.T. (R) (M) (ARRT)
NSRT President
